MTU Onsite Energy is built on a legacy of advanced engine design and manufacturing, plus more than half a century of perfecting and packaging power generation systems.

Two of our ancestral companies – United States’ Detroit Diesel Corporation and Germany’s MTU Friedrichshafen – dominated diesel engine innovation and manufacturing on their respective continents for most of the 20th Century.

In 2006, Tognum Group acquired both companies, along with Katolight Corporation a year later. Based in Minnesota with over 50 years of diesel, gaseous and power take-off generator set manufacturing and packaging expertise, Katolight strengthened our product line. In 2008, MTU Onsite Energy was formed to consolidate MTU’s power generation brands under one name.

Today, MTU Onsite Energy has a very strong presence in North America. With engines built in Detroit, Michigan and power generation systems manufactured in Mankato, Minnesota, MTU Onsite Energy has a distinct advantage in delivering power systems on time and on budget.
