ROLLS-ROYCE TO SHOWCASE UPGRADED SERIES 400 ENGINE FROM MTU ONSITE ENERGY AT ENERGY DECENTRAL

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN/HANNOVER, GERMANY – Rolls-Royce will present the upgraded Series 400 engine from MTU Onsite Energy for the first time at Energy Decentral, the international trade fair for innovative energy supply. The genset, which is now available in a modular design with a heat cabinet and exhaust gas heat exchanger, will be on display in Hanover from 15 to 18 November 2016 in Hall 24 on Stand A20. MTU Onsite Energy will also be taking part in the “CHP Plants – Maintenance and Service” Special in Hall 25 on Stand L06 and will be demonstrating the replacement of a complete cylinder unit on a Series 4000 genset. The MTU Onsite Energy brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

Matthias Vogel, Vice President Power Generation at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, said: “For almost 40 years now, we have developed and optimised compact solutions for the generation of heat and power in the power range between 120 and 420 kW. This experience is reflected in the new modular-designed Series 400 engine, which now makes it possible for us to respond even more flexibly to meet our customers’ requirements, to install the genset faster and to simplify maintenance.”

The Series 400 engine is currently available as a 12 cylinder version and can run on natural gas. It can be used for the generation of electric power alone or for the cogeneration of heat and power. To meet these requirements, MTU Onsite Energy is currently offering the engine in three different modular designs: the basic version, which is designed purely for the generation of electric power. In order to use the heat recovered from the engine’s coolant, the basic version can also be supplied with a heat cabinet. There is also a third version available, which is based on the basic version and combined with a heat cabinet and an exhaust gas heat exchanger. This makes it possible to achieve an exceptionally high operational efficiency of up to 90 per cent, since both the exhaust gas heat and the heat recovered from the engine’s coolant are used. The customer also has the possibility of ordering an acoustic enclosure as an optional extra. With the launch of the modular Series 400 engine, MTU Onsite Energy now offers ideal solutions for gas-fired power generation and the cogeneration of heat and power for industrial applications or in public buildings, for example, for the supply of district heating, or for use in biogas plants. The product portfolio has been supplemented with the addition of the MTU Series 4000 engine designed to cover a power range extending from 700 to 2,500 kW.

During the “CHP Plants – Maintenance and Service” Special, which is taking place for the first time this year, MTU Onsite Energy will also be demonstrating the replacement of a complete cylinder unit on a 16-cylinder Series 4000 genset on each day of the trade fair. Anyone interested in the demonstration will have the opportunity to witness the assembly and dismantling of the unit at the following times:

  • Tuesday, 15 November 2016 from 11am to 1pm
  • Wednesday, 16 November 2016 from 1pm to 3pm
  • Thursday, 17 November 2016 from 3pm to 5pm
  • Friday, 18 November 2016 from 10am to 12 noon
